12 Maternity style tips.

12 Maternity style tips.
  1. You don’t have to buy maternity clothes, but get everything two sizes bigger! I am usually a European size 10 (American 6) but I have been shopping regular non maternity clothes in size 14, even 16! Not only does it make me feel slimmer, it’s comfortable and I love wearing oversized clothing in general so I can keep them when I’m not pregnant.
  2. Coats, blazers and jackets are your friends. I love oversized coats, jackets and blazers to slice your body in half, and only let the bump peak out when you want it to ๐Ÿ™‚
  3. Buttons are your enemies. Elastic everything. Jeans, skirts, leggings etc will stretch to your changing body and make you feel comfortable, all day long.
  4. Black black and more black. I’m a big fan of black in general but nothing like the slimming effect black has on a growing pregnancy body. It looks chic and also can hide any sort of swelling or weight gain that may come about on other parts of the body.
  5. Hide it or flaunt it or both. Some days I want to share my big beautiful bump with the world, and others I want to hide away and be treated like every other non pregnant person out there ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s all about balance.
  6. Layering helps. I love layering everything, starting with a tight dress or t-shirt and skinny jeans, then adding bigger pieces, like a cardigan or waist coat, followed by a big over sized coat or jacket, topped off with a fun scarf or pashmina.
  7. Get an oversized sweater! I have been rotating three oversized jumpers with everything! Get one in a large and match with tighter pants, such as skinny jeans, leggings or a cute skirt.
  8. Play with silk. There is nothing like the feeling of silk or satin draped over your big lovely round belly. It falls so perfectly and has a slimming effect. Excellent for formal occasions. Also don’t forget some silk or satin pjs for your hospital bag.
  9. Over the knee boots. I have been loving over the knee boots to add a touch of glam to my maternity style. I got stretchy material boots so they are comfortable if I am feeling slightly swollen etc. They elongate the leg, and show just a hint of thigh, so are great paired with skinny jeans, leggings or a short skirt.
  10. Boyfriends/ husbands clothing. Now is the perfect time to steal your partners clothing. I have been living in my fiancรฉ’s clothing. From oversized sweaters, to boyfriend jeans and cute t shirts, I’m loving raiding his wardrobe. ๐Ÿ˜‰
  11. Find a good pair of maternity jeans. If it’s the only piece of maternity clothing you buy, invest in a good pair of maternity jeans. My favorites have to be, Primark maternity jeans, Freddy jeans, or Topshop.
  12. A blazer dress. I loved my black blazer dress for a night out as it was very flattering, glamorous and comfortable. I felt like hiding the bump a bit and it did just that. I got it in a size 14 two sizes up. This one is from Primark but they are in most shops right now.

Hope these few tips helped in some way. Have fun dressing the bump ๐Ÿ™‚
